The NASA TechRise Virtual Field Trip for students and educators is on Thursday, September 25 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. PT! This FREE event is designed to teach sixth to 12th-grade students about space exploration and how to enter this year’s NASA TechRise Student Challenge by submitting a proposal for an experiment to fly on a suborbital-spaceship or high-altitude balloon flight.

The event includes a special NASA welcome and presentation by Rob Ferl – the first NASA-funded researcher to fly with their payload on a suborbital rocket. Prof. Ferl will talk about his exciting career studying how living organisms respond to extreme conditions, especially spaceflight. He is a distinguished professor and director of the Astraeus Space Institute and assistant vice president for research at the University of Florida. Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A.

Thinking about student privacy? We like the way you think! Registration is required. Students do not go on camera or share audio, and there is no public chat. However, the field trip is interactive! Students can submit questions directly to speakers/hosts and come prepared with questions. Students’ questions are answered live on the virtual stage!

Wondering if you can attend even if you’re not in sixth-12th grade? Although this field trip is meant for students eligible for the NASA TechRise Student Challenge, anyone with a Future Engineers account can RSVP and join.
